January 1: Holy Name of Jesus

Eternal Father, who didst give to thine incarnate Son the holy name of Jesus to be the sign of our salvation: Plant in every heart, we beseech thee, the love of him who is the Savior of the world, even our Lord Jesus Christ; who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, in glory everlasting.
Therefore God also highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Phi 2:9-11, NRSV)
(ICON: This holy icon of the Circumcision of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is by the hand of Father John Matusiak many years ago when he was dean of Saint Mary Cathedral in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where the icon is currently housed. St Basil the Great is depicted above the Circumcision. Both of which are commemorated on January 1, eight days after the Nativity of our Lord.)
